2008 Mazda CX-7 Review Summary
Introduced in 2007, the 2008 Mazda CX-7 remains mostly unchanged from prior year which is OK since it won both Motor Trend and Caranddriver SUV of the year in 2007 and is ranked number 3 by Allcarguides.com in the Affordable Compact SUVcategory. This sporty 4 cylinder turbocharged small crossover has many fans among reviewers. Its price ($23,000), smart looks, quality interior and handling make it hard to beat as noted by Washington Post. Though it consumes premium gas (12 city and 22 highway) at too large amounts for those looking to for good fuel economy. The other main point of weakness is limited cargo space, approximately 30 cubic of space, when compared to some of its competitors (Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V). Though much beloved by many reviewers, it is slightly slower, with less cargo and worse mileage than the Toyota RAV4. But the RAV 4 is not as visually sharp nor as much fun too drive, all points as noted by Caranddriver. The CX-7 2.3-liter 4 cylinder engine provides an ample 244 hp and 258 torque is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It is really an on road SUV with no real off road capabilities. It is available in both 2 and all wheel drive and in normal driving conditions the all-wheel-drive system directs all of the engine's power to the front wheels. When needed, if there is a loss of traction, up to 50 percent of engine power is automatically and quickly applied to the rear wheels. The Mazda CX-7 comes in 3 trims: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. The Sport trim is more then adequate as the 2 more e

2008 Mazda CX-7 Review Handling
Brisk acceleration from the standard 4 cylinder turbo but it can feel less than even than 6 cylinder and there is some turbo lag. The CX-7 brakes fast, turns very quickly and holds corners well. However the ride has been described as rough by some

2008 Mazda CX-7 Review Safety
Antilock disc brakes, stability control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags come standard on all trim levels. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, crash tested the 2008 Mazda CX-7 and it performed very well, receiving a top five-star rating in both front and side collisions.

2008 Mazda CX-7 Noteworthy
The Mazda CX-7 is a visually interesting car with performance to back its good looks as noted by most reviewers including thecarconnection, Edmunds and Detroit News. Rear seat has pretty good head room but leg room is not a bit cramped. It borrows heavily from the Mazda 6 speed’s engine and Mazda 3’s chasis – all good things. As noted by Motherproof, the rear seat has cup holders for the kids and large console cargo area for bags and other items.
