2008 Saturn Sky Review Summary
The 2008 Saturn Sky, ranked 8.3 by ACG, is an affordable sports car and mechanical sibling to the Pontiac Solstice as both were built on the same GM rear-wheel drive platform. The Sky is predominantly unchanged from its 2007 predecessor with the exception of a few additional standard features including stability control, a limited-slip differential and satellite radio. Customers now also have the ability to special order any exterior and interior color combination they choose as a way of personalizing their car. The 2008 Saturn Sky comes available in two trims (base and Red Line). In addition to the standard features listed above, the Sky’s generous list of additional standard equipment (more than what is offered on the Pontiac Solstice) includes 18-inch wheels, a manual soft top with a glass rear window, automatic headlights, full power accessories, air-conditioning and a six-speaker audio system with CD/MP3 player and auxiliary jack. GM powered the base model with a 177 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-4 (0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds). The Saturn Sky Red Line is Saturn’s equivalent to the Pontiac Solstice GXP and tacks on leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, special interior and exterior details, a sport-tuned suspension, performance tires and metallic interior trim. The Sky Red Line, most importantly, gains the more powerful and quicker accelerating 260 horsepower 2.0-liter inline-4 with direct injection (0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds). Reviewers swooned over the Sky’s eye-catching exterior design giving it better marks than most every competitive vehicle in it’s class. Experts also complimented the Sky’s available Red Line trim, affordability, smooth ride, roomy cockpit, and more sophisticated styling than that of competitors including the Pontiac Solstice. Critics were unimpressed with the Saturn Sky’s lack of trunk space, poor ergonomic interior design, overly complicated soft top operation that requires getting out of the car and limited power and performance with the 177 horsepower 2.4-liter base engine.
